Charles and Betty are now serving God as Care Pastors under Pastors Ron and Connie Coleman at Grace Church Ministries (almost 500 people) in Chester, Illinois. This is the story of how they met in a small town in Southern Illinois in the fifties and were eventually married. They share many of the difficulties they went through and about their call to serve in South Africa during the years of Apartheid.

You will read of many of their experiences and share in the power of God’s continual leading, guiding, and protection in their lives. This book is an inspiration of faith, courage, strength, and dependence upon God in every area.

“We often think that as Americans we are faith people, but the true test of faith is when we get to the place where we have no options at all. We quickly learned that all we could hold onto was God and He proved to be more than enough. We believe everyone will enjoy reading our story.”

Led by Fire will be enjoyed by everyone interested in overcoming racism or learning more about Southern Africa, or reading a good story of faith and hope. People who have experienced racism in any way will probably be drawn to this story. This is a true historical account spanning over fifty years.

I have to say that I am not a writer myself, so bear with me!! I know it's a cliché to say I couldn't stop reading "Led By Fire", but I really was into it and couldn't shake it. It became an integral part of the day--when I had free moments (or late at night because I don't have lots of free time as of yet) I wanted to read more. I read it in only a few days--a speed record for me. I felt that way about 'The Shack' when it came out, and that was the last book that affected me in this way.

It includes 'real' moments, those times we get exhausted or have fears--times we truly cry out to God--our hearts laid bare before Him. Those will speak to anyone reading this book. It's an amazing story! I enjoyed the layout--very inventive (moving in and out from story to main underlying event). It helped me to note that my husband and I need to pray a lot more as a couple, that some things need to be only between us and the Lord, and that those stories were REAL testimonies--it takes some sinking in!! I also imagined each of their voices as I read--maybe they could do an audio version in the future as this book takes off!!

It is so awesome to read about just part of what God did in their lives--very radical, and very challenging and provoking to myself as the reader--motivating! And it's an awesome testimony to God's goodness and faithfulness. Few and far between is there a book that shakes you up a bit, in a good way. It was such a blessing--thank you for writing it down and sharing your story, Charles and Betty!

Great read! Interesting and inspirational book.
I was inspired & encouraged by the book Led by Fire, and to know the authors personally, and to know how God was so real in their lives. God delivered them through racial prejudice, hardships, and their love endured
This is a tender and revealing love story with Christ at the center of triumph over immeasurable adversities. I now understand why people have said that it is a difficult book to put down, once started. This true story of their 50 year journey of overcoming obstacles, as an interracial couple in service to Christ, is a fascinating and intriguing study in faith, commitment, and perseverence.
I am not an avid reader, I read the book in 3 settings I did not want to put down. This book will build your faith in Christ. A real love story of two individuals that did what was necessary to be together but in a biblical sense not in a worldly way. I recommend this book to any teen to see what real love is. What God's love can do in our lives. How to stand in faith when that is all you have. Two Godly people who has served the Lord with their whole heart. A must read book.
I wanted to share, as their son, I have lived and experienced a portion of what is in the book, and I count myself privileged to be involved with their extraordinary lives. Their story is unique, the people are genuine, and they both remain one of the biggest influences in my life. They sacrificed a lot for what they believe in, have stayed true to their faith, and have been a shining example for me to follow. In the future, I hope to be able to say that I have accomplished a portion of what they have.

Charles and Betty McGee are individuals that you will get to know intimately while reading their story, and I hope that you will be able to see how special and important they are to the people that know them, and all the lives that they have touched along the way. I try to live my life with the knowledge that every day, my interactions with people have meaning and purpose, and to have that reflect my parents influence. This is me telling the rest of the world that you both mean more to me than you will ever know, and, rest of the world - meet my parents!
This is the remarkable story of a mixed race couple who faced and overcame racial prejudice both in the U.S. and in South Africa. Their journey reminds us of how faith and hope heals all hurts and transcends all barriers. The storytelling of the book is simple and straight forward and can speak to all of our hearts.
